This situation happens often, so don’t stress about it.  It normally occurs when you accept an invitation to connect from someone who has invited you using a different email address from the one that you used to create your account in the first place.

  1. In order to overcome that, you should add any active email address to your LinkedIn account.  (see step 2)
  2. First look at your two accounts and decide which one you would like to keep.  If one is more complete than the other, or has more connections, then that one should stay.   Add your other email address to this account.
  3. Go back to your second profile and download the list of contacts you had there.  Send those individuals a connection request from your preferred account, with a note that you are cleaning up your account and that the other one has been closed.
  4. Go back to the one that you want to discard, go to Settings at the top right of the screen and enter your account.  This is the same place where you would have added your additional email address with your preferred profile.  Then near the bottom right hand side, click on Accounts, and in the middle you have the option of either Upgrading your account or closing it.

It would be a good idea to add a photo to your profile.  Profile without photos are really glossed over when people look for connections and keyword accounts.
